1. The chapter's title really shows how primitive the group of boys is getting. Their hair is growing longer showing how long they've been away from society. Painting faces shows how being away from society is affecting them and turning them insane.
2. We think Maurice hurries away because he feels guilty about what he did, knowing he would've gotten into trouble if he were at home/school. We think Roger aims for Henry, but never hits him because he knows that would be wrong. Or possibly, he wants to intimidate Henry, but not harm him.
3. When Jack puts on a "mask" he acts like nothing is important except for killing a pig and spilling its blood. He doesn't really care about much else, like when Ralph got mad about the fire not being kept after. Jack shrugs this off and keeps the excitement of the hunt going on.
4. After Jack punches Piggy in the stomach, Piggy goes and runs behind a rock to hide from Jack. Jack mimics him, making the group laugh at Piggy. Also, when they are cooking the pig meat, Jack refuses to give any to Piggy, making him feel more like an outcast.
